Hardships

Image
Thanks to Sp_Clark for the photograph.

the breath of life blows soft and low
and so my brow is bent and bowed
as far and down as the old willow

no whistle in the breeze now

a chirp, a chime, a rustle leaves then
the branch and leaf – my fractured thieves den
which holds the lives of tainted free men

no whistle in the breeze now

silence as we plod and trundle
stepping on we fall and fumble
mud from hand and knee, it tumbles

no whistle in the breeze now

each his own to mercys ruling
falling far yet never fruiting
bring back slow, the chains of grueling

no whistle in the breeze now

spread the seed to plant the fear
evil skies grin ear to ear
the breath of life blown soft, sincere

no whistle in the breeze now
